New Steel Arrives at 3 World Trade Center

By Silverstein Properties

Hundreds of steel beams and columns weighing over 15 tons each were delivered to 3 World Trade Center this week.

Fabricated in Columbia, South Carolina, each beam was hoisted over 125 feet in the air to the 8th floor of the building.

Although the tower’s concrete core has risen to the 14th floor, this is the first time steel and concrete are going up at the same time.

The steel will frame out floors for the building’s anchor tenant GroupM, the world’s leading media investment management group, which signed a 20-year lease for over half a million square feet at the base of the tower.

The steel will top out on the 80th floor in December 2016 and 3 World Trade Center will open in 2018.
